Document destruction, also known as paper shredding, offered this year

pdf file of recycling event flyerIn observance of Earth Day 2019 and in conjunction with its focus on diverting recyclable items away from the landfill, the City of St. Augustine Public Works Department is coordinating a one-day community recycle event on Friday, April 26.  This year’s event will be held at the Solid Waste Facility, located at 601 Riberia Street, from 9:00am to 1:00pm.

In years past, only electronics and cooking oil were accepted; however, in response to increasing community demand, this year we are pleased to announce that we will feature a paper shredding component.

Document Destruction, also known as paper shredding, is the dicing and baling process that destroys paper records and information in a safe and compliant way. This type of service safeguards and protects the privacy of your sensitive and confidential paper documents. To ensure compliance we use a certified on-site mobile shredding truck, which is a box truck with an industrial-size paper shredder mounted inside. The truck has storage space for the shredded materials, which will later be baled into mixed paper and pulped for new paper products.

Residents may bring up to 5 boxes each, to participate in this event. There is no need to worry about removing any staples, paperclips or folders. The on-site shred truck and operator have the ability and equipment to remove the confidential material with a secured container and transport the documents for proper destruction. In addition, the mobile shred truck is equipped with a monitor so residents may witness the shredding process!

Participants are encouraged to properly dispose of used cooking oil, such as vegetable oil, peanut oil, canola oil, etc., as well as drop-off outdated and broken “E-waste” (electronic devices) such as computers, printers, laptops, and cell phones - NO HAZARDOUS WASTE OR TVs.  Refer to the complete list below of electronic devices to bring for recycling.
