Rate increase assists in funding projects and encourages water conservation

click to view the Water Sewer Rate Change flyerThis month the City of St. Augustine’s utility customers, both residential and commercial, are receiving their first statements of the new fiscal year. Included with the water bill is a flyer explaining the rate increase approved by the City Commission as part of the 2018-2019 budget.

This year’s increase is the continuation of a multi-year utility rate structure that the Commission approved in 2015 with the goals of helping to fund much needed modernization and upgrades to the city’s utility systems while also encouraging water conservation by having customers pay only for the amount of water they use. Those who conserve water will pay less and those who use more will pay more.

The city’s utility service area extends outside the city limits and while those properties that use city services but do not pay city property taxes have always paid more for utility services, under the new rate structure that additional surcharge is now less and thus more equitable.

The city constantly strives to maintain the highest in quality water and sewer services and customer satisfaction is a top priority. Any customer with questions about the new rates, or any question regarding the city’s utility services are encourages to contact the public works department during regular business hours, Monday through Friday at 904.824.1040 or send an email anytime to PublicWorks@citystaug.com.
