Phase 1 installation set to begin in September

image of South Street temporary pedestrian lane stripingThe City of St. Augustine will host an informational meeting on Wednesday, September 5, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at the Willie Galimore Center, located at 399 Riberia St. in Lincolnville, to offer the public an opportunity to preview the construction plans for the upcoming sidewalk installation on the north side of South Street, which will run from Maria Sanchez Lake to Riberia Street.  The public is encouraged to attend and speak with city staff directly and ask questions, as no formal presentation is planned.

The sidewalk will be located in the same proximity as the current temporary striped walking path that was installed in November 2017 in response to public interest in creating a safe pedestrian lane in the neighborhood.

Phase 1 of the sidewalk will begin in September and be completed by the end of the year, weather permitting and no unforeseen circumstances.  This portion of the sidewalk will start at the west side of Maria Sanchez Lake and run to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Ave.

Phase 2 of the project is planned for FY 2019-2020 and will include extensive underground drainage, water and sewer infrastructure construction.  This portion of the sidewalk will continue from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Ave. to Riberia St.

Funding for this project is provided by the Lincolnville Community Redevelopment Area (LCRA), which uses Tax Increment Financing (TIF) monies to make improvements in the designated Lincolnville area.
