New permit procedures to be implemented in July
As of Monday, July 2, 2018, the Building Division of the Planning and Building Department will be implementing two new procedures for processing building permits. The Division will no longer issue over-the-counter permits but will now accept non-plan review permits submitted via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Planning and Building Department staff will still accept permit applications in person, but will not immediately process and issue permits at that time. Staff will process the application and then contact the applicant when the permit is ready for issuance. For most permits not requiring a plan review, the processing time will be less than two days.
Permits that require a plan review will continue to be accepted in person at the Planning and Building front counter.
Permits that do not require a plan review can be emailed to email@example.com; thus, eliminating the need to deliver the permit application to Planning and Building in person. Once the permit is ready for issuance, the staff will contact the applicant and issue the permit through one of the following methods:
- Over the phone, pay with Visa/MasterCard*. Permit will be emailed once payment is received.
- At the Planning and Building Department front counter, pay in person (cash, check, or VISA/MasterCard*). Permit will be issued in person, or can also be emailed.

The intent of these changes is to reduce the amount of time that an applicant spends at the Planning and Building Department, and ultimately to eliminate the need entirely for the applicant to physically come to City Hall.
