APWA Northeast Florida Branch Road-E-O event hosted in Green Cove Springs
The American Public Works Association (APWA) holds annual regional events where equipment operators compete locally to qualify for the State Expo. This year’s regional event, APWA Northeast Florida Branch Road-E-O, is hosted by the City of Green Cove Springs and is being held at the Clay County Fairgrounds.
Every year, the City of St. Augustine proudly sends equipment operators from the Public Works Department to represent the city in this unique competition joining operators from the entire northern part of the state, from Pensacola to Daytona Beach.
The annual Road-E-O gives our employees the opportunity to demonstrate the skills they use every day and to do so in a fun, but competitive, environment,” said Martha Graham, the city’s Public Works Director. “Of course, we always want our employees to win in each competition, but just being able to demonstrate their skills in front of their peers is rewarding in and of itself, but of course, they really want to bring that first place recognition back home to St. Augustine.”
This year, Darrell Wierzba (Stormwater Division), Chad Henry (Solid Waste Division), and Ed Passmore (Streets & Grounds Division) will compete in five skill challenge events. Ranging from a Gradall, Forklift, Backhoe, Claw/Grapple Truck and the Vac Con/Wash truck, competitors will be timed for their proficiency and agility in each of these events. The top three competitors will advance to the state competition, which takes place in Jacksonville at the Prime Osborn Convention Center in April.
