Event is kickoff to National Public Works Week
Few would argue that the one department in St. Augustine’s city government that touches every resident, visitor and business every day it is the Public Works Department. From clean water to reliable trash pick-up, from recycling and environmental programs to well-maintained parks, Public Works connects us all every day. And that is the theme of the St. Augustine Public Works Department’s kickoff event for National Public Works Week, May 21-27: Public Works Connect Us.
Scheduled for Saturday, May 20, the community celebration will be held at the Public Works Compound, 253 W. King St. from 10:00am until 1:00pm. The event is free and the public is encouraged to attend.
The event will include a Climb Aboard and Touch-A-Truck area offering an up-close look at the much of the city’s construction and specialized equipment as well as service vehicles from street sweepers to garbage trucks.
Additionally, the event will be an opportunity to properly dispose of some of those recyclable items that are sometimes a challenge, such as small electronics, tires (limit four) and used cooking oil. A document shredding service will also be available (limit three boxes per person). Please note that the recycling services are available only to city residents and that the drop-off entrance is on Pellicer Lane.
There will be food and music and lots of information on city services provided by the Public Works Department.
The community is encouraged to stop by, take advantage of the recycling services, ask questions about city services and learn how Public Works Connects Us all every day.
