Casa del Hildago is getting a new roof
Shops and restrooms open during work
The city owned Casa del Hildago, located at the corner of Hypolita and St. George Streets, is getting a new roof, but the building's shops, restaurant, and public restrooms are all open.
The building, which faces Hypolita St. and the historic Hispanic Garden, was built by the Spanish Government as a cultural center as part of the city's quad-centennial in 1964. The city acquired the building in 2003 after it had been vacant for several years.
The roof replacement is part of the regularly planned maintenance on city owned properties. Throughout the project, which is expected to last approximately 10-weeks, safe access will be maintained for entrances to the building from both Hypolita St. and St. George St. The few public restroom facilities will remain open 7-days a week from 8:30am-2:00am.
Businesses in the Casa del Hildago are Bear Mountain Outfitters; Café del Hildago, A Place to Gather; Sangrias's Tapas & Piano Bar; Shopaholic Plus Resort Wear & More; and Vino-Del-Grotto Wines of the South.
